EC Connect Recreation & Life Skills Club is an innovative community-based program being developed by Extended Care Services to support transition-age youth and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) ages 16-26.
Our goal is to create a welcoming and engaging environment where participants can build friendships, develop life skills, explore vocational interests, and increase independence through meaningful activities and community involvement.
Participants will have opportunities to learn practical skills that promote greater independence, including:
• Meal preparation
• Kitchen safety
• Healthy living habits
• Organization and daily living skills
• Group games
• Movie nights
• Team-building activities
• Friendship-building experiences
• Community events
Activities may include:
• Custom T-shirt creation
• Heat press projects
• Holiday gifts and crafts
• Small business and entrepreneurship exploration
Participants may explore:
• Workplace expectations
• Professional communication
• Resume development
• Interview preparation
• Career interests and strengths
Community-based activities may include:
• Library visits
• Park outings
• Local events
• Community safety and navigation skills
EC Connect is being developed for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities ages 16-26 who are interested in learning new skills, building friendships, increasing independence, and participating in meaningful community experiences.
We are currently exploring community interest and developing our pilot program.
